2007 Annual Meeting : John Rice of Thoroughbred Daylilies

John & Annette Rice breed for hardiness, high bud count, good branching and vigor. John's favorite color is purple and many of his introductions are in that hue but he recognizes that orange, yellow and gold are the colors that carry best visually in the garden so he also works in those colors. Annette concentrates on diploids and has produced some impressive unusual colors in that realm. Their "claim to fame" could be said to be their 2006 introduction 'Bass Gibson', which is much sought after by hybridizers and leaves a definite impression on all who see it. John & Annette generously donated five of their introductions to our "Guest Plant" program. Click HERE for more information on that program.
