DSSEW 2008 Summer Bus Tour
Saturday, July 12th

Come and join dozens of gardeners on a daylong bus trip to see a marvelous garden and two very special growers of perennial plants. The 2008 Daylily Society tour is scheduled for Saturday, July 12th and includes stops at the fabulous Rotary Botanical Gardens in Janesville, Klehm’s Song Sparrow Nursery in Avalon, WI (a square mile garden of great plants and shrubs), and Pesche’s Garden Center located just west of Lake Geneva. There is a new twist with this trip. To assure a full bus, thus keeping the costs low, we have also invited the Southeast Wisconsin Hosta Society members to come along.

The details for a reservation are as follows: provide your name and the name of any guests you choose to invite, along with your address and telephone number. Indicate where you want to board the bus and enclose a check made out to DSSEW in the amount of $25.00 (Rotary Garden admission included) for each reservation. There is a deadline, June 25th, by which the checks have to be in the mail.  Act quickly so as to not be left out of the fun.

There will be two pickups. The bus will leave pickup No. 1 at the State Fair Park and Ride lot, located just west of 76th Street and just south of I-94, at 7:30 AM. Pickup No. 2, at the Park and Ride lot located on the east side of 108th Street (Wis. Hwy 100) just south of I-43, will leave at 7:45 AM. We are due at Song Sparrow at 9 AM, so this is a tight schedule. Water will be provided on the bus and you are invited to bring snacks to share. Since there is no time in our schedule to stop for a restaurant meal, bring a bag lunch and your own beverage.

Mail your registration information and check no later than June 25th to Lindy Pawlak, 261 E. Sunset Drive, Oak Creek 53154. Your check is your reservation! If you have questions, contact Lindy at 414-764-4651 or Sue Schimanski at 262-835-4235.

Song Sparrow will be a walking tour. There are green houses with splendid potted plants for sale and you may also order plants from Song Sparrow Nursery from their catalog or web site, pay for them by credit card, and pick them up at the time the bus visits their facility. Song Sparrow’s e-mail address is info@songsparrow.com and the web site is www.songsparrow.com. The catalog ordering number is 800-553-3715.

The second stop, Rotary Botanical Gardens, has soda machines; also a coffee service with cinnamon rolls, or box lunches, that can be ordered ahead of time. E-mail Sue, sue23ski@yahoo.com, or call her, if you have interest in these items. She has a price list and can help you order. There is a terrace at the Garden which will be used for our lunch break.

If you would enjoy advance looks at the other places to be visited, the Pesche Garden Center web site is www.peschesgreenhouse.com and that of the Rotary Botanical Gardens is www.rotarygardens.org.
